[tex-live] use of x86_64-darwin only in mactex 2010

Why are there separate universal and 64 bit binaries, anyway? Surely the "right" way to do this is to produce 3-way binaries with ppc, i386, and x86_64 all in the same file, not some 2 way binaries and a separate lot of 64 bit binaries. That's the whole point of this universal thing - to stop users having to worry about it.
