[tex-live] Use of the updmap-local.cfg file

If there is some consensus on this suggestion, I will try it when I get back home to my test machine.
I don't quite understand how a missing update is the culprit however since the advice about the
use of updmap-local.cfg was located in the updmap.cfg contained in the 2009 distribution.
As a result I would have thought that this "local" method of providing updates would have
Been well established and tested at that point.

With regard to the " tlmgr update --self --all" command, there is something else there that has been bugging me.
If I loaded my original install from F: (say) drive using a DVD, then the first thing this command will demand
is that the load disk should still be resident in that drive to recall the load database and refuse to proceed
if this disk is not resident. Why should this be necessary?  Once the load and install is done, why should the
updater need to refer back to the original install disk for reference?  I just find that strange and bothersome.
Perhaps there has been an earlier thread on this particular subject that I have nt read yet (I joined recently).

PS Sorry about the DOS lines. Perhaps it's the way corporate Outlook is configured?  Are there DOS line endings
   at the ends of the lines of this email?

I am not sure *WHEN* this support was added, I assume it was
AFTER the initial tlmgr that went into the TL2009 release.

Please do the following in cmd.exe (dos box):
- tlmgr update --self --all
- tlmgr generate updmap

That should be enough to get everything working.
