but it is known that such operations in perl are time consuming. It
would be better to add a new function to kpathsea that would collect
these merges during instalation and finally writes everything to the
disk, maybe Berkeley DB could be used for this purpose in order to
make it faster than perl implementation. Merging the map files is
exactly the job of updmap(-sys). If you know how to merge map files
more efficiently, why should it be in the installer only? Why not to
implement updmap in a better way?
