[tex-live] files generated by fmtutil/updmap -- platform independent?

Hi,

Are the files generated by updmap and fmtutil platform independent? We
are thinking of providing a pre-made texmf-var in OpenBSD packages (if
possible). Is there anything else I would need other than texmf-var
(texmf-config?).

Tips and info are gratefully accepted.
