> I know the problem is with the --make-xindy-rules option to configure. Without it everything builds ok. I need xindy, that is why I want to build texlive 20009 with it. Do you mean that I do not need to pass the xindy options to the configure script of the TL-source, since xindy is already included in the TL-texmf (texlive-20091107-texmf.tar.xz)?

You only need to pass
	--with-xindy
but not the --make-xindy-rules.

> I do not understand your question: "BTW, why do you recompile eveything at all?". So far I have figured out that in order to package a fully functional TL distribution, I need two of the files at the repository: texlive-20091107-source.tar.xz and texlive-20091107-texmf.tar.xz. Maybe from texlive-20091107-source I only need the bin folder?

Do you package TeX Live for a specific distribution? In this case your
question is probably better off at the tldistro mailing list where
we discuss repackaging TL for distributions.

If you simply want to *use* TL get the net installer and install it.

Best wishes

Norbert
