[tex-live] pretest: makempx missing

Metapost does not work as expected. The followoing exits with an error:

beginfig(1);
label(btex $x$ etex,(0,0));
endfig;
end.

This is MetaPost, version 1.203 (kpathsea version 5.0.0)
(./test.mpsh: makempx: command not found

! Unable to make mpx file.

               $x$ etex,(0,0));
Transcript written on test.log.

Am I missing something?
