Like Lars said but with more words :) --

Copy the binaries from
http://tug.org/texlive/Contents/live/bin/i386-linux/ (or that directory
on the DVD or whatever) into a new directory on your NAS drive,
bin/i386-linux, a new sibling to the existing bin/win32.

Then add /path/to/nas/drive/texlive/bin/i386-linux to your PATH when
running on the (GNU/)Linux VM.

I think that is it.  No tinkering with TEXDIR or TEXMFSYS* should be
needed as far as I can tell.  (Assuming the NAS drive is writable.)
