I have tried again. -t nopaper does not insert any PS code, -t unknown
contains exactly the same code as I wrote in a previous mail. It seems
that I made a misprint when writing the command. If the name is not
found, dvips writes "no match for papersize". Most probably I did not
notice it and reported that -t unknown does not help. Now beamer with
latex + dvips -t unknown + ps2pdf works fine.
