I read again carefully page
http://authors.aps.org/revtex4/index.html
and didn't find any note that revtex 4.1 is a replacement for
revtex4, only recommendation to use revtex 4.1 for submission.

So, I think this was sort of misunderstanding: revtex4.1 is _not_
replacement for revtex4 and removing it from TL (and CTAN) was a
mistake.

Files belong to revtex4.1 package have different names than in revtex4
(cp. revtex4.cls and revtex4-1.cls) so they _could_ be used in parallel.

(Though there may be problems: revtex4.1 relies on natbib 8.3, I'm not
sure would revtex4 work with this version of natbib or not.)
