[tex-live] pdftex "bug" (?) on powerpc mac

    This is pdfTeX, Version 3.141592-1.40.7 (Web2C 7.5.6)

That is a version from a (rather old) test release of 08, which had
other largefile bugs.  The current release says:

 This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.1415926-1.40.9 (Web2C 7.5.7)

(I am trying to reproduce the bug now anyway.)
