Phil, that's you who asked for putting that output into install-tl.log :-)
In my opinion there are already too much messages on-screen, so we have
the TeX Live Guide for that.

So which priviledges you have as the system administrator? Bizarre!
On my win xp (as sysadmin) I can write everywhere, the same on linux.

Sorry, you didn't answer my question: vista or xp?

I don't want to start such discussion, but windows are half-way (horror!)
in that, eg. i can run: ren BlaBla.tex bLAbLA.TEX and dir (or ls) will
show me a new name :-)

So we again prooved that. For some misterious reason fc-cache fails
*during* installation. That problem was already discussed with Akira,
Jonathan and others, but as far nobody knows why it fails.
Running fc-cache *after* installation is recommended and such information
will appear on TeX Live bugs page (thanks to Karl).
Anyway, can somebody investigate that, please? Something wrong with
running fc-cache as sub-sub process on Windows?
