[tex-live] [OS X TeX] tlmgr failure

I get the same problem on i386 linux, using the mirror at
ftp://ctan.cms.math.ca and $Revision=11079
but not using my local mirror updated last night.  Applying
update-tlmgr-r11156.sh just gets a message that the local revision is
greater than
the version on my mirror, but I still get the "uninitialized value"
using the CMS
mirror.
