Well, it may be a command-line tool in terms of
how one invokes it, but my (admittedly very
limited) experience of its output is that it
is anything but command-line : it appears to
launch the document that it finds, which in
turn launches a viewer appropriate to that
document format ...
However, although it was not what I originally
meant, I can see that your idea (your second
sentence above) might be exactly what I am
proposing. In other words, when TeXdoc
encounters one perfect match, it performs
its current behaviour; if it can perform only
a fuzzy match (or if the user asks for a
fuzzy match), then it should launch what
Victor has just termed an "umbrella" document,
which is itself hyperlinked to the documents
that have just been fuzzy matched.
