That's not true:

texdoc -s geometry 

shows all the documentation for geometry (and more), and grepping for
"pdf" gives 2 hits (in tl 2007). 

texdoc -s pdftex | grep [.]pdf

gives 10 hits.

With the lua version, it even finishes before you've made and drunk a
cup of coffee (or brewn and drunken a beer, depending on the size of
your TEXMF trees).
