Well, the "fewer errors" theory so far has not really been convincing
regarding the build process.  And errors in dead code paths are not
particularly troublesome.  I have my doubts that we'll be saving much in
binary size...  If there are significant savings, they will probably
occur because of smaller data structures.

What _might_ be a valid concern is if the dead code requires additional
dependencies or slows down the regular code paths because of unnecessary
checks and such.

Anyway, I don't consider it entirely unlikely that at some point of time
some TeX engine might offer features regarding whatever !DISABLE_OUTLINE
is about, and then the fun can start again...

Well, if that happens, we probably will know what's in the bush by then.
So there is probably no point in mixing up things again right now.
