I tried the following versions of ghostscript, all on SUSE 10.1:
3.53 5.10 6.52 7.05 8.15 8.50 8.54 8.57
all those gs versions caused an error with the original marvosym.pfb
and none of them failed with the new marvosym.pfb...
so it doesn't look like a problem with new ghostscript versions,
at least not on Linux.
the command actually being tested will all local files was
( echo 10.0 ; echo `seq 0 255` ) | gs-$version -dNODISPLAY -dNOGC -sSUBSTFONT=MarVoSym -q -- render.ps MarVoSym "(marvosym.pfb) brun" "" 600.00
(inspired by the exec() call in gsftopk with strace;) with "render.ps" from
