I have found a piece of software called fontforge which is capable of
telling me the name to use.
The OpenType font suggested by Reinhard works fine (but I don't think
it has unicode characters included).
I also tryed downloading and using several fonts from the web and
using them with varying success. It could be due to the quality of the
font itself however, rather than the binaries.
For example SquareTextTryout (http://fontfreak.com/fonts-s3.htm) does
this on i386:
[...snip]

(/usr/local/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/xkeyval/xkeyval.tex

(/usr/local/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/lm/lmodern.sty)
(/usr/local/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/fontenc.sty

Do you get a segfault if you use this font on your system.
When it does work it is beautiful though. Very impressed.
