I've installed subversion 1.4.4 on tug. The claim is that there are
significant speed/space improvements in working repository copies, but I
have to recreate the repo to take advantage. That's no problem, but the
further claim is that older clients will then not know what to do with a
1.4 working copy.
I think an older client simply accessing the repo over the net would be
unaffected, but I have no way to know for sure until we try it. What I
saw on the net was some reports from people using GUI tools. If anyone
here cares, let me know, else I will try updating the repo in a few days.
Incidentally, there's a new program "svnsync" in the 1.4 distribution,
which is intended for exactly updating read-only copies of a repo.
Perhaps it will be of interest to some, or perhaps not.

P.S. For those of you actually working on tug, you may notice that
svn --version and --help are broken, although everything else works as
far as I can tell. I'm looking into it. Sigh.
