imo, actually, neither of them is a pain *in isolation*.
the pain comes when one attempts to interwork; as in systems such as our
world here, where windows and un*x share the same filer.
at my last job, we had similar fun where we interworked between vms and
unix; the difference was vms was much more inventive about case mapping.
