Hi Staszek,
now we have

OSFONTDIR = %SystemRoot%/fonts//

Does this work?  Sorry again for not being able to test it.  But all
the other variables are UNIX-like, (VARTEXFONTS = $TEXMFVAR/fonts) and
I suppose that kpathsea translates UNIX stuff to Windows if necessary.

Is it correct to use %var% instead of $var in texmf.cnf?
