Nobody does that in Unix and it would not change anything.  The Cygwin
"cat", in contrast, contains some hackery to interpret ANSI color
sequences on Windows, since Windows, surprise, surprise, does not
offer a standard-compliant console.

In short: you are complaining about a workaround for a deficiency
limited to Windows.
