[tex-live] map file only for pdftex and updmap?

    Is there a way I can keep on using updmap to enable/disable a map  
    file but have the reult only end up in the pdftex map? 

I guess you could specify --dvipsoutputdir and --dvipdfmoutputdir to be
something temporary and remove it after?

But I agree with Reinhard that it's better to just have all three maps
be the same.  It's already intolerably confusing.  And maybe dvips
and/or dvipdf[m][x] will acquire truetype/opentype support one day.
(Maybe the latter already has, for all I know.)
