Hi Gerben,
don't worry about TTF fonts in psfonts.map, ps2pk.map, or dvipdfm.map.
They don't hurt.
If you want to use TTF fonts with pdftex and equivalent Type1 fonts
with other programs it's best to use the pdftex primitives \pdfmapfile
and \pdfmapline. They are described in the pdftex manual.
