don't worry, one gets the sec patches for a relative long period even 
when new versions come out, and i never had a problem with security 
anyway (interesting is that i cannot get security fixes for my two year 
old linux boxes, but then i don't worry about that either);

beware of pdftex ... it links to png lib which has a security breach 
(just fixed but could be a problem if you don't update)  ... the danger 
is in the pictures -)
