Because there is almost no documentation in Windows, so people forgot to
read and they do not expect that everything is documented.

Because the manufacturers deny people freedom to use their products
without paying to Microsoft. And resellers are too lazy to look into
compatibility list. I buy my equipment in good computer shops so that I
have no problems to use Linux and OS/2.
