(1) in that case you'd have to install gzip instead of bzip which does
not change the problem
(2) gzip operates on one file (pipe) while zip is able to create an
archive of files (so, zip is a replacement for tar+gzip, but you know
that -)
btw, on windows using winrar will solve most compression/archive problems

(a happy user of zip, although the public version is inferior to the
good old pkzip one because that one had better selective zipping options
built in)
