teTeX is not "size-ok-for-internet". It still provides a lot of stuff
which most people don't need. As a VnTeX maintainer I don't want to
complain too loudly, though.

TL is a CD/DVD distribution where size has never been a major problem.
But TL ***already has*** a package management system which allows you
to select what you need. The only thing which is missing is a WEB
interface. I suppose it's just a matter of time until someone who is
familiar with something like PHP will do.

Another way would be to support Christian's MikTeX packages and use
them to create TL. In this case, people can install a very small TL
package and can download the stuff they need.

I had been quite shocked at the moment I heard that Thomas thinks
about giving up teTeX. But on the other hand I expected that it will
happen former or later all the time. It's very frustrating to see
that many people are working on the same thing (the texmf tree).

Maintaining a texmf tree is really hard work.

The most severe problem of TeX is that there are very few developers
but plenty of ideas. Maintaining different texmf trees means wasting

Microsoft isn't the answer. Microsoft is the question, and the answer is NO.
