teTeX does not have what is claimed here. Or, Norbert is speaking of a
different teTeX than me...

  $ grep TEXFONTMAPS /t/src/tetex-src/texk/kpathsea/texmf.in
  TEXFONTMAPS = .;$TEXMF/fonts/map//

  $ grep ENCFONTS /t/src/tetex-src/texk/kpathsea/texmf.in
  ENCFONTS = .;$TEXMF/fonts/enc//
