Thanks.
BUT: I have a different question now:
I have a adapted language.dat file in /var/lib/texmf/tex/generic/config
and the original one /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config
When I call fmtutil-sys the language.dat from the /usr/share tree is
taken:
$ kpsewhich language.dat
/var/lib/texmf/tex/generic/config
but if I do the same like the fmtutil-sys:
$ v=`kpsewhich -var-value TEXMFSYSVAR`
$ c=`kpsewhich -var-value TEXMFSYSCONFIG`
$ TEXMFVAR="$v"
$ TEXMFCONFIG="$c"
$ export TEXMFVAR TEXMFCONFIG
$ kpsewhich language.dat
/usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/language.dat
I definitely do not understand this, can you help me?
Best wishes
Norbert

SNITTER (n.)
One of the rather unfunny newspaper clippings pinned to an office
wall, the humour of which is supposed to derive from the fact that the
headline contains a name similar to that of one of the occupants to
the office.
