[tex-live] ok for tab to be printable?

I noticed that the Web2C manual
(http://tug.org/texlive/devsrc/Master/texmf/doc/web2c/web2c.html#TCX-files)
says:

    you shouldn't make the following characters printable: @code{^^I} (TAB),
    ... since @TeX{} uses them in various ways.

But we do make tab printable in cp227.tcx.  Is this really a problem?
I can't even remember if I wrote the above statement, but if I did, I
don't remember what I was thinking of.  A quick look at tex.web did not
glean any special uses of tab.

Any ideas?  I figure we can probably just drop that from web2c.texi?
