BTW, this has nothing to do with the issue at hand, but I've found it
good practice to always write "cd <dir> && <command>" rather than "cd
<dir>; <command>" in Makefiles, shell scripts, etc.  That way, if the cd
fails for whatever reason, the <command> is not run in the wrong
directory, which can occasionally lead to havoc.
