I have been thinking the opposite direction, of squeezing a subset of
TL onto a Knoppix remaster. My current system has 88mbytes of TL
files, and that provides enough to teach with and do simple work.

One of my long-term aims has always been to provide Debian
packages for all of TeX Live. The idea would be to make each TL
collection into a package. I just have not had time to write the
fairly small script to do the job. When this is done, it will be easy
to take Knoppix, cut out packaes, and add TeX ones, ad lib.
