ok, so no problems there; btw, are these details documented somewhere? if 
not, maybe they should go into the web2c doc o rmaybe in a separate doc?

since pdftex is the main engine now, we can add a section to the upcoming 
updated manual (just send me a paragraph summarizing it some day)
