I suspected that my omission (unintentional) of details will confuse 
someone. Namely, I didn't mention that by "leftover from previous build" I 
meant that there was something in your tree (not my local tree!) which 
caused the build to fail unless one executes "make clean" for real and to 
do that one needs a Makefile, so I used Makefile.in as Makefile and it did 
the trick.

So, I repeat, I did "p4 sync" on a clean tree (no previous builds) then 
copied that tree somewhere and did a Build on it, which failed.
