peoples view of the "free"ness of TeX. Whether TeX is "free" is one thing. I see no purpose in debating that here, we know the story. But texbook.tex and mfbook.tex are definitely not free, as they can't legally be modified. So I agree with te now, I don't think they should be included in TL.
