[tex-live] texlive-20010307.iso.bz2 + Solaris

In the meantime I observed the following:

- I can successfully use texlive6 on a Solaris 2.6 system !?

- Solaris 2.6 + 2.7: kpsewhich finds texmf.cnf in 
  "/cdrom_server/texlive6/texmf/web2c/"

- but "(pdf)latex file.tex" on Solaris 2.7 both report:
  fmtutil: config file 'fmtutil.cnf' not found.

  and the tail output after setting KPATHSEA_DEBUG to -1 is 

kdebug:start search(file=fmtutil.cnf, must_exist=0, find_all=0,
path=/users/kaja/texlive/source/texmf/web2c).
kdebug:search(fmtutil.cnf) =>

  At the beginning of the debug output I see some suspect lines:

kdebug:fopen(/cdrom_server/texlive6/bin/sparc-solaris2.7/kpsewhich, r) =>
0x31310
kdebug:fclose(0x31310) => 0
lstat(/cdrom_server/texlive6/bin) failed ...
/cdrom_server/texlive6/bin: Value too large for defined data type

- kpsewhich --format="web2c files" fmtutil.cnf

  o Solaris 2.6: /cdrom_server/texlive6/web2c/fmtutil.cnf
  o Solaris 2.7: -nothing-
