I get:
$ dvips -d4 -Ppdf -o test.ps test
This is dvips(k) 5.96norb Copyright 2005 Radical Eye Software (www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 2007.05.03:1058' -> test.ps
Defining font () cmr10 at 10.0pt
Font cmr10 <CMR10> is resident.
Checking for fonts in 'fig.0'
Adding font 'CMSY10' from included postscript file 'fig.0'.
Adding font 'CMR10' from included postscript file 'fig.0'.
<tex.pro><alt-rule.pro><cmsy10.pfb><cmr10.pfb><texps.pro><special.pro>.
<cmr10.pfb>[1<fig.0>]

(Note that the version 5.96norb is the texlive version with your fix
applied, I also changed the version number so that it reminds me what I
am working with!)

Could it be that the
	Font cmr10 <CMR10> is resident.
is the problem?

Best wishes

Norbert
