Tom R, Olaf, whoever -- any reason not to output %%CreationDate
at this point as Stephen suggests? I guess I must have given up
maintainership before I made the change :).

Thanks,
karl

Subject: CreationDate in dvips

What is the current status/thinking on having dvips output a
%%CreationDate header?

We had a discussion about this in 1997, from which I remember that this
feature is controlled by a CREATIONDATE ifdef, which was off by default
because of old portability concerns, but which you would turn on by
default in the next version.

I'm now using dvips on Debian (using teTeX), so I didn't build it from
source.  I am running:

$ dvips --version
dvips(k) 5.86e
kpathsea version 3.3.7

It doesn't output a %%CreationDate, alas. It appears that the
CREATIONDATE conditional is still hiding it and still off.
