  I wanted to, but it's not going to be possible tonight, I'm afraid.
As mentioned on https://github.com/reutenauer/polyglossia/issues/129 I
have code that works for the essential uses, by bypassing the format
completely, but there are just too many important cases that don't work
and I can't in good conscience upload the package to CTAN yet.  About
one hour ago I even tried loading babel from polyglossia.sty, but even
that didn't work for some of my test cases, so I had to give up.
