      Tonos and oxia are the same character.

although the shapes of the diacritics
are identical, pre-accented letters
are listed separately in unicode:

  03AF  Greek small letter iota with tonos
  1F77  Greek small letter iota with oxia

so what is done depends on the input
encoding.
