I would add another question:

       4d. For the open source world in general?

I think the latter point eclipses the previous ones. I wouldn't
change the license for a particular project, but if the whole
community benefits from the pattern files, it's a good idea,
no matter who uses them and why.

Let me point out I was considering changing the license to a very
permissive one long before I was invited to do so a few weeks ago.
