in this question on tex.se
   http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/74352/
   Prevent global hyphenation for a specific word
it is reported that with
   \usepackage[german]{babel}
the word "Bytestrom" is hyphenated "By-testrom".

since with the english patterns these hyphenations
are correct
   byte-wise byte-stream Byte-strom
i know this is capable of being fixed.

as pointed out in the tex.se interchange, there
are many german compounds with the initial
component "Byte".

i hope there's someone here who can make this
fix, and report back to tex.se. (of course,
even if a change is made instantaneously, it
will take awhile to get it into distribution,
but this would be a start.)
