    2.) in pTeX there are some extra synonyms; are they really needed?

I suggest whittling down the ptex aliases to be the same as the TL
language.dat.  I don't recall ever having =canadian, etc., but I suppose
we did at some point ... and it's been gone for ages now without
complaint.  I can't imagine ptex users are specifically asking for those
obscure aliases ...

Can only think about one issue per reply, sorry :).
