I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. I don't think soo many users hand-edit their
language databases, but for those who do, there is problems either way.

The point is, I don't want the new luatex-specific part of the system to

I'll review the documentation to make this clearer. I agree that the current
presentation is misleading.
Thanks for your comments, even if I don't always agree, it helps me to have a
clearer view of the system and how I should explain it.
