There's one question that needs to be answered first: which patterns
do you want to load? Knuth's or "the new/extensive ones"? (I didn't
want to mess with Knuth's file naming, so we left hyphen.tex intact
and took the extended version of patterns, also to be used in ConTeXt
etc.)

In language.dat there is now.

english  hyphen.tex  % do not change!

% ushyphmax.tex, on the other hand, includes Gerard Kuiken's additional
% patterns; it is not frozen.

The patterns that we have in repository are in fact "usenglishmax".
Which synonyms should we use then?
