    The English patterns don't need any modifications at all. 

If you're not modifying it, I don't see any big reason for it to exist in
hyph-utf8 at all.  Unless the eventual goal is to be complete?

    Should we still rename the file to hyph-en-gb.tex?

No, we should keep the existing name.

    Please, do not try to invent yet another two-letter code for British.

I don't understand.  Are you saying there is no official assigned two
letter code for British?  I am amazed.

    Maybe you can simply add it to English, 

Ok, if that's how you've done all those other languages, I suppose we
should do it that way for English, too.  I'll take a look.
