Oops, I was wrong -- it still doesn't work.  Section word is typeset
inside a group which ends before the label's value is typeset,
therefore the hanging indentation setting _inside_ the section word
doesn't survive till the end of the paragraph, which is the point
where it actually matters.  (It starts working if you put \smallskip
before \hang... _and_ a \par at the end of the section word.)
