Ok, I'll change btxmac.tex.

I'm afraid we'd still need to do this globally -- imagine a user
calling the first xref command within a user-created group.  Then the
new \@readauxfile would still have the same issues as now, but at
least we can tell the user to just say \readauxfile at the beginning
of his/her document.
