[tex-eplain] footnote and amstex

Was the error about an undefined command?  I'd guess so (see

Sorry, I don't have The Joy of TeX, but looking at
amstex.tex, I see that it \let's \footnote to
\plainfootnote, and then makes \footnote undefined (I don't
have a clue why).  Eplain, on the other hand, just redefines
\footnote.  So my guess is that you have to input eplain.tex
first, then amstex.tex, and then use \plainfootnote.  I
can't see why

  \let\footnote\plainfootnote

after you load amstex.tex shouldn't work (but note I've
never used amstex.tex).  This should define \footnote to
Eplain's footnote macro.
