my eyes don't see it as a typo: longer titles also can have period in the
middle, but there is still no period in the end.

But I find the capital letter `S' distracting, the paretheses look more
moderate.

Note that I come from the background of Czech typography, which is close
to the German tradition.  So my feelings may not be appropriate for English
books.
